Nostr up and running

It took a while but I think I am there with my nostr setup. I now have a “blue check”.

My nostr.json file lists my public key and my relays. You will note there is a web socket link (ws not wss) to an onion address. This is the Nostr RS Relay I have setup for Homelab Brisbane. It’s main advantage is that if you send me your public key in hex format and list it as one of your relays all your nostr notes will be saved to at least that relay.

My nostr lnurlp took longer to sort out. Like most things it’s simple when you know but I it took me a while to work out how to get a macaroon. These are like browser cookies but more tasty.

The upshot is that if you want to shoot me a thousand sats it should now go straight through. I suspect it is broken but feel free to give it a go. :joy:

For the record my banner image is Carrington Street, Lismore in the February 2022 flood. (Caddy’s coffee in the foreground never tasted quite the same after that.)

I may have Coracle set up, no browser extension needed and I keep my keys and passwords in a decade old encrypted database anyway.

I’ve sent David a message, here is my proof. It worked, ahh the sweet smell of success!

Terry, you’re as good as me. A man of many npubs.

In reply to myself, I have not yet worked out how to access my LND node from a non-onion address. Some homework for the next two days.

Ok, it worked, here is the proof! For some reason I found all the NOSTR stuff (lots of permissions needed) at https://coracle.social easy to set up and comprehend.

With Alby, after you enter your pin and are presented with the first screen you can choose your level of trust (at the bottom of the screen). They give you three options. Careless, normal and paranoid.

If you are just using Alby for nostr (not lightning) careless mode is fine.
