Having setup your arrs cluster members maybe looking for TV series to watch over the Christmas break. The following is HLB’s 2024 TV guide. The series are listed in no particular order.
Mr Inbetween - Aussie hitman with a heart of gold (perhaps a little tarnished).
Colin From Accounts - Rom com with Aussie humour. The main protagonists are known as Flash Gordon and Flashley. If you see S01E01 you will understand.
Severance - The blue pill as a surgical operation.
“The Bear” - One perhaps for the wife. Good for those trying to reconcile their OCD. However, this year’s outing suffers from Director’s self indulgence.
Slow Horses - The failed and hopeless of the British Secret Service finish up in Slough House, where they can stay out of harm’s way. They fail. SH will appeal to geeks. Jackson Lamb is our kind of anti-hero (and I am a sucker for Jagger).
Citadel: Diana - Spying, intrigue, vengeance and Italians. What’s not to love.
The Franchise - If you love superhero films, this may be your antidote.
The Kin - Dublin crime family drama. The kith don’t do as well as the kin. Take home message, “Don’t do drugs”.
This is continuing a thread that followed an original suggestion from @jdownie last year.
Noting that HLBers are diverse in age, if not gender, some may be interested in the British TV Series, Breeders, which deals with a youngish couple raising a son and daughter. The show produced by Martin Freeman ran for four seasons and captured the foibles of modern life.
The acting and more importantly the scripts are excellent and the story lines will likely strike a cord with viewers reflecting on their time as a child or a parent or even as a grandparent.
You can catch the show on iview or on a Usenet newsgroup near you.
I’m reluctantly starting another round of Stranger Things in preparation for Season 5 starting in late November.
My wife’s a Stranger Things fanatic. We have a bit of a tradition of doing a “thorough recap” by watching the whole show again in the lead up to a new season being released. So, last night marked the fifth (at least) time we’ve pressed play on S01E01 . I think she just misses the 80s and 90s
In contrast, i’m a one man wolf pack when it comes to shows like Andor, Foundation, Severence, etc. Funny how that works
A lost father, a mute brother, a recovering addict mum, a heroin dealer for a stepfather, and a notorious criminal for a babysitter. Eli Bell is just trying to follow his heart and understand what it means to become a good man, but fate keeps throwing obstacles in his way.
