Everything Open 2027

At the August meeting Arjen Lentz mentioned Everything Open 27 is coming to QUT January 20 to 22 January 2027.

The program only really comes together in the last few weeks but I have listed some of the talks from last year which I would have found interesting.

Prices for hobbyists are $349 for the three days if you get in early. If you can’t get away from work there is online access at $129.

  1. Practical PKI: A hands-on X.509 workshop
  2. Neighbourhood-First Software: How we roll-out the open web without expecting everyone to self-host
  3. Running Agentic AI Offline on your Linux Machine
  4. Is it even worthwhile to self-host these days?
  5. When something has gone wrong in your neighbourhood, and they’re calling you… whatcha gonna do
  6. Don’t Trust Opaque Clouds, Cryptographically Verify Instead!
  7. I hope this email talk finds you well
  8. Beginning with the Shell
  9. Catch the Flash - Measuring household power usage
  10. My degoogled life
  11. Make Whisper speak Australian with Mozilla Data Collective speech datasets
  12. So You’ve Decided to Build It Yourself
  13. Fixing a misconfigured Kubernetes Cluster

The last session on Day 3 is Lightning talks (16.45 -17.15). They are maximum 3 minutes. Back in the LCA days the audience was encouraged to start counting down from the 2.30 minute mark. It might have been off putting for the presenter but great for audience participation. I don’t know if EO is more civilised.

If you are interested in any of these talks, 46 of the talks are archived on Youtube. Images from the conference are on the LCA mirror and here and the wrap is here.

I have registered for the three days but not the Thursday night Penguin dinner.

Thanks for posting that overview mate. I’ll begin negotiations with the missus. Right now i’m thinking that three days of tooling around a uni with a backpack and a laptop sounds fun, but by Monday i might be being more practical about the “time off work” aspect of it. I’m very excited to get amongst something like this though. It’s all very unfamiliar to me, so i’d be grateful it you’d show me around a bit. I promise I won’t shadow you too much!
