It’s that time of year again. Merry Christmas everybody!
It’s going to be hard for everybody to make it to our meetups in December, particularly our library one.
The 9th of December seems like the usual time to have a Jitsi call, but the second half of December is no good for a library catch up (right?).
I think we’ll have to skip the in person meetup for December and just have our Jitsi online meeting in December.
What does everybody else think? I tried to think of a way for us to get together for a dinner, but i couldn’t think of a venue where we could hear each other talk, and i didn’t think many could make it anyway. I’d love to do it though with anybody that disagrees.
Agree with all of the above. Would love to do a dinner, but it might be a bit hard to make work while everyone is likely to have other commitments during that time.
Online on Dec 9 and some end of year wrap up might be a good approach, on the condition that everyone shares their summer projects and new toys on the discourse over the course of the following month .
Yeah, weeknight dinner might not be all that “out of the question”, but I can’t think of a venue. I’d want to talk to everybody, and most dinner venues turn into shouting matches after 6:30pm.
November’s meetings are in the second half of the month so sticking with an online meeting on December 9 is a good idea.
However, I am up for a meal somewhere in the week after that and the question is whether it is north, south or central. Wesfield Chermside has some good restaurants but I don’t know anything about their acoustics, although many of them offer outdoor dining.
I’ve scheduled our online Jitsi call for Dec 9. I’ll start the search for a venue for us to get together for a meal somewhere. If we make it on a Saturday (or maybe a Sunday) we can make it a brunch, which i think will be quiet enough for us to be able to talk. Does everybody agree with that line of thinking?
I called them and explained that we’re looking for a venue that won’t get too rowdy for us to be able to talk to one another. I’m told that it will suit out needs. I’ve also confirmed that they have wheelchair access.
Assuming that we’re all happy with that as a venue, can we start the selection for a Saturday or Sunday morning?
I won’t be able to make it, I’m afraid - I’m off helping out at Bribie after the storms with work for another week, then going interstate. I might have to catch you all in the new year! I’ll be around late this month at this point, but I imagine we’ll all be pretty busy by then!
Sorry to have missed you yesterday @Kangie. The storms and my damaged solar panel and its possible replacements were amongst our discussions yesterday. As a result @Belfry has agreed to do an update on his solar setup during the upcoming online meeting on Tuesday night at 7.30 pm Queensland time.
Otherwise we’re back next year and I am hoping to get @ab23 to do a gitops presentation at the face to face meeting in January.
