The first Cyclone to hit Brisbane in 40 years !

Yes but the weird thing is that where we live, which is close to where eye of the storm will cross the coast, the wind is not forecast to be greater that 23 knots over the next 36 hours. We are shielded from the worst of the predominant south to southwest winds by 100 kilometres of hinterland. It’s actually worse on the North Coast than here.

It has been raining strongly with strong gusty winds here in Casino,NSW since 7pm on 6 March.
This is my second Cyclone. I lived thru Cyclone Alby (Cat 4) when it hit Port Hedland on March 24, 1978, spending the night in a cyclone proof building with hundreds of others. No one got any sleep.

The Brisbane Mayor seems to have a clue, lots of good advice here.

Hi @techman / @russell.davie I hope things are tracking OK for you on the Northern Rivers.

I lost power last night about 1 am and it came back about two hours ago. I have lost a main server and one drive but have restored this website via devious means.

However, we are now getting the worst of the winds so it probably just takes one tree branch and we are out again.

Hi David, glad to hear you’re ok and great to see your Discord site back up!

It’s been pretty mild here in Casino in comparison to you, no loss of power yet, but then we are 200 odd KM from Brisbane, however the Richmond river has risen a lot and we have flooding similar to the big flood in 2022. Back then the Richmond river here was at 16.49 meters and almost came into my huge industrial shed.

The max river level in the next few days is only expected to reach 12.2 metres but I’ll still be somewhat cut off from town. I have a weeks food and water so no big deal as it will all be over by then.

Hi David,

Glad to hear your through the worst of it.
Been v windy and rainy for a few days.
Huge tree next door blew down the hill and fell across two houses.
SES came and chopped it back a bit and pulled a massive silver tarp under it to cover the roof that took the bulk of the tree.
The river peaked at 9.3m yesterday 6pm, now falling even thougth there is a bit of rain about All in all, everything outside is very wet from the slow drizzle which looks like it will be here for a few days.

The effects of the Cyclone are so bad here in Casino that Dominos was advertising home delivery from today.

I made a $25 order, and selected “pay by cash”.

They pulled up in their little hatchback about a 1/2 hour later, having driven thru the orange SES ‘flooded’ area in the map above, as they came from the center of Casino.

I asked the driver “any water on the road?” to which he replied “nope, no problems”.
