HLB in person meeting - Chermside Library, 6.30 pm 21 August

Thanks @techman

I note you are not available for the next in person meeting this coming Thursday at Chermside Library but I have put you down for September 9 for the online meeting.

So for this coming meeting we need to firm up some topics.

@shirbo are you still available for Thursday night talking about your adventures in n8n?

Also @Kangie offered to do a talk at the last meeting but I have forgotten what. :head_shaking_horizontally:

From the board other possible topics are Caddy / Homelab Certificate management per @Belfry and I am happy to contribute to a discussion about self hosted email.

If @mcrilly is around I would like to hear more about provisioning Proxmox with terraform. I could probably figure it out myself but I am much more inspired to try things when I see them demonstrated at the meetings.

Other topics are available if you have a passion.

100% agree. It’s been brilliant to see some of the other cool projects people are working on, and also try out some new ways of doing things that I wouldn’t have otherwise been nudged into trying.

Happy to put something together for Thursday if any of my odds and ends on the discourse have resonated with anyone attending and they’d like a deeper dive.

Well currently I will be late so I am happy to discuss it once I arrive

However, I don’t really have a laptop I can use to present. I can try and revive my Chromebook which I could use. How do you normally present your home labs @zeeclor ?

Brilliant.

We’re pretty unconferency.

You can just talk or have a Q&A. You can borrow a computer if you want. @jdownie often remotes into his homelab to demonstrate various things.

It’s entirely up to you. We set aside 30 minutes and a talk can be as short or as long as you want. (NB. Note we cut the @techman off at 30 minutes. )

If you need anything let us know. Otherwise catch you on Thursday night. What time can you make it?

I’d probably be there around 19:30.

I’ve got a tablet but n8n doesn’t display well but let me see what I can do with the Chromebook

OK. I’ve got you down for about 7.45 pm but we are nothing if not flexible.

Many have tried and failed!

Reminder to any attendees on Thursday - don’t park in the public car park under the library. The carpark closes up before we wrap up, and you won’t get your car back. :grimacing:

I’ll throw together a brief presentation on certificates in the homelab based on my exploration so far. Please let me know if you have anything specific you’d like answered on the topic.

I think an outline of how the valid certificates are obtained and the resulting use cases would be good.

I think it was on WSL packaging (as in how you make a WSL distribution), but I can talk about many things. I’ll be there tomorrow, but happy to push that back - it’s not like I have a slide deck prepared or anything!

Thanks @Kangie. I’ve got you down for the Jitsi meeting on 9 September. Does that suit?

Yeah, hopefully I’ll have something interesting to show for it by then and can do up some fun background info.
